propinquity (noun) Nearness; being related.

Your propinquity to people in power is your nearness to them; your knowing them quite well. Propinquity is also relationship. The propinquity between the ape and the humans is the closeness between the two and the relationship between the two. A person’s propinquity to a king, is his nearness to the king; his close connections with the king.

  • The pupils’ propinquity to the teacher in the hostel has led to a band of affection between the pupils on the one hand and the teacher on other.
  • Many think that Eddy’s rapid rise in the company is due to his propinquity to the managing director of the company. Not only do they live close to each other, but they are also some way related to each other.
