proselytize (verb) persuade to convert from one religion to another or from one political party to another

When someone proselytizes you they persuade you to give up your religion or political beliefs and change over to their religion or political beliefs. Missionaries proselytize when they change people of other religions into Christianity. Proselytize is usually used to express disapproval.

  • A good number of Christian missionaries were tortured when they tried to proselytize people of Non-Christian countries, because the people there did not approve of their conversions.
  • It is the individualís right to follow the religion of their choice. Trying to proselytize them into othersí beliefs is not proper.
