recalcitrant (adj) stubborn, disobedient.

A recalcitrant pupil is a disobedient pupil. They refuse to follow rules even after punishment. Recalcitrant people are not only unwilling to follow rules but are difficult to control. They resist authority.

  • The university has decided to suspend the recalcitrant students. They took the action to warn the other students that they will not tolerate such stubbornness and disobedience.
