Recourse to something is turning to something for help or for use. You seek recourse to something if you use it to help you out of a situation. ‘He sought recourse to drinking to get rid of his depression.’ This means that to forget his depression he took to drinking. A thing that you use to help you in utter need is also recourse. A person’s only recourse may be lying if that alone can save their life.

  • In danger of being attacked by the robbers, he sought recourse to the protection of the thick cluster of bushes nearby.
  • His only recourse in the circumstances was to earn money by donating one of his kidneys.
