rectify (verb) set right/correct.
When you rectify a fault you correct it. When you take steps to set right a situation you see that it is corrected. When you rectify accounts, you correct the mistakes in it.
- The auditor pointed certain discrepancies in the accounts and the accountant immediately rectified them. The accounts so corrected were presented to the income tax authorities.
