regeneration (noun) growth again; renewal; rebirth.

If after near destruction something grows again, then it has regeneration. The regeneration of an area in its economy is its growing again in economic prosperity. The regeneration of an area in commerce is revival of commercial activity in the area. There can be environmental regeneration of an area, if after almost total destruction, the environment there is reestablished. The regeneration of cells or tissues is their growing again after destruction. Cancerous cells have the tendency of regeneration; that is, even after their destruction, they grow again.

  • Brain cells are not capable of regeneration. Once they are destroyed they don't grow again.
  • The Marshall Plan caused the regeneration of the European economy in the late 1940s. Thanks to the plan, the economies of many European countries began to be prosperous.
