reimburse (verb) pay back the money spent or lost.

When we reimburse any expenditure someone has incurred we pay them back the money they have spent on our purposes. Companies or government departments reimburse the expenditure their employees go through on companys' or government jobs. The employees' travel expenses are reimbursed if they travel on their employers' purposes.

  • He agreed to do the job only on condition that we reimburse the expenses he may incur. He wanted part of the money in advance too.
  • The government has yet to reimburse the money I have spent on official work. I submitted the bills a month ago but I am yet to receive that money.
