relic (noun) object or custom reminding us of the past; a part of holy person's body or clothes kept after their death.

A relic is an object or custom, which belongs to the past and reminds us of it. For example, the tools, vessels and such other objects used by the people of the past and telling us of their way of life are relics. A custom that has continued from the olden days is also a relic. The part of a body or clothes of a holy person preserved after their death and is regarded as holy is also a relic. In many Buddhist stupas, some part of the Buddha's body is preserved and are regarded as holy. Such are relics.
