ruminate (verb) chew over again and again (like cows); think carefully and deeply about something.

Animals like cows and buffalos ruminate, that is, they bring back the food from their stomachs to their mouths and chew it again. It is also called chewing the cud. To ruminate is also to think carefully and deeply over something, especially something that has happened in the past. When you ruminate on something that has happened, you keep thinking about it again and again. You go over in your mind about past incidents.
