ruse (noun) trick.

A ruse is a clever trick to deceive some one. When a person thinks of deceiving someone they use a trick, or, in other words, a ruse. The trick that students use to get their teacherís attention away from them is a ruse. We may sometimes use a faked phone call to get out from someoneís presence. This is a ruse.

  • She encouraged her parents to go for a movie. This was her ruse to see that they are out of home when her boy friend would arrive.
  • Tom talked badly about their teacher in his friendís presence. It was his ruse to make the friend too, talk badly about their teacher in their teacherís hearing. He used this trick to prove to her teacher the friendís real opinion about her.
