sentient (adj) able to experience things through the senses.

The human being is sentient. That is they are capable of experiencing the world around them through their senses their eyes, their ears, their nose, their tongue and their ability to feel things when they touch them. So, we say that man is a sentient being. So are animals because they also experience the world around through the senses.

  • Jagdish Chandra Bose discovered that plants are also sentient beings. They have the sense of touch, and so they feel.
  • We can hurt sentient beings, because they have the sense of feeling. When they are hurt, they feel the pain.
