shoddy (adj) [of goods, work, etc.] made or done carelessly; unfair and dishonest.

Shoddy goods are goods of inferior quality, and not well made. Shoddy work is work very badly done. A carpenter does a shoddy job if he does not do the work well, and if his work is not satisfactory. Shoddy also means dishonest or unfair. Shoddy dealings are dishonest dealings. A merchant who cheats is a shoddy businessman. Shoddy business is dishonest business.

  • I paid a good lot of money, and in the end the work the mason did was very shoddy. His construction lacked finish and the walls and the other structures were very week.
  • The lawyer indulges in shoddy practice of law. He uses his knowledge of law to cheat clients and others.
