sibylline (adj) prophetic.

Sibylline means being prophetic, that is, capable of telling the future. The sibylline words of a person are words, which tell us something about future. Sibylline statements are statements about what is likely to happen in the future.

  • John the Baptist's words about the advent of Jesus were Sibylline. He was able to tell people in advance that Jesus was going to be born on earth to save sinners. His words proved true.
  • The ancient books in the form of dried palm leaves tied up together and containing writings of ancient sages are believed to be Sibylline. People believe they contain details of what might happen in the future.
