simile (noun) an expression of comparison.

A word or phrase, which, using words like, like, as, so, etc. when you say, for example, that the moon is like a silver disk, you are using a simile, because you are comparing the moon to a silver disk, by using the word like.

  • She is as pure and innocent as angel - this is an example of simile, as the sentence compares her to an angel. The similarity is expressed by the phrase, 'as pure and innocent as..'.
  • Similes make the meaning clear by comparing an unknown thing to a known thing by showing their similarities.
