skimp (verb) spend less time, money, etc., on something than is needed.
To skimp on something is not to use enough of it than is needed so that what is made of it is poor quality. To skimp on time is to spend less time than necessary on something. The result is that you can't show enough interest in it.
- The doctor who was in a hurry skimped on the time to study the patient. He did not spend sufficient time on the patient and so could not understand the patient's real condition.
- They skimped on necessities just to save enough money for their child's heart surgery. They did not spend enough money even on their basic necessities like food and clothing.
