skinflint (noun) miser.

A skinflint is a miser, that is, a person who hates spending money even on things that are very necessary. A skinflint does not at all like to help others with money. They are very stingy. They hate spending money even if it is very necessary.

  • Shylock in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice was a skinflint. When his daughter eloped, he wept more for his gold, than the loss or welfare of his daughter.
  • The skinflint that he is, Darryl does not care about wearing decent clothes. He just saves money without spending them even on what he very much needs, like good food and good clothes.
