When you slacken your effort, you reduce your effort. When you slacken your speed, you reduce your speed. When you slacken, you become less energetic than you were before.

  • He slackened his efforts to achieve it, because of his earlier two failures. He is making less effort now as he fears he may fail again.
  • The government has slackened its control over the business companies. It is now not so strict because it fears that too much of control may affect business activity.
