slander (noun) false bad talk about somebody.

False baseless bad statements about somebody to create bad opinion about them are slander. Wicked people spread slanders about somebody because they do not like them or for selfish purposes. This is a crime according to law.

  • Unable to compete, the company spread slanders about the rival company. It made false statements about the rival company to create wrong opinion in the public about the company and thus affect its business.
  • The leader dismissed the complaints about his conduct as mere slander. He said that mischievous people were spreading the false talk about him just to damage his good name.
