superimpose (verb) place a photo, picture or image on another.
To superimpose is to put a photo, image or a picture on another so that both can be seen. If your photo is superimposed on a picture of the pyramids, the result will be your photo seen with the pyramids in the background. If the picture of the Taj Mahal is imposed on the city map of Agra, we see the picture of the Taj on the map of the Agra city. To superimpose is also to make a system or pattern combine with another system that is opposite it.
- Jim's photo was superimposed on a picture of Mount Everest to give the impression that Jim was on the top of Everest.
- A pattern of squares was superimposed on a pattern of circles. With the squares on them, the picture gives impression of a new pattern consisting of squares and circles.
