suture (noun) stitch or stitches sewing a wound after an operation.

The stitch or stitches put after an operation to join the cut edges of an injury or wound is suture. Surgeons after operation put sutures to close the wound or the injury, that is, they put stitches to sew up and close the wound.

  • Operated upon a few days ago, the sutures on Dave's injuries are yet to be removed. The stitches will be removed when the injury is dry.
