synthetic (adj) Made by combining different chemical substances [as against naturally obtained from trees and plants].

Synthetic rubber is rubber produced artificially by combining different chemical substances. Synthetic fruit juices are fruit juices, which are produced by combining different chemicals, and not juices of natural fruits.

  • A synthetic product can never be a substitute for a natural product. Soft drinks, which are produced by combining chemicals, can never have the taste of natural fruit juices.
  • Some times synthetic products have properties, which their natural originals may not have. Synthetic rubber, which is produced chemically, has better uses than natural rubber.
