taint (verb) make impure or bad [Used usually in the passive].
A thing taints a situation or a person if it makes the situation or the person bad or impure. Corruption taints a government because the corruption makes the government bad or impure. Bribery taints a person's hands, because the bribe they have taken makes them impure or bad.
- The blood of his father and brothers tainted Aurangzeb's rise to kingship. He became a king by imprisoning his father and killing his brothers.
