tarry (verb) stay without going away; delay coming to or going from a place.
When you tarry you stay at a place without going away from there though you must be going. You tarry if when it is time for you to go to college, you do not start for college or delay going to college.
- "Don't tarry anymore here, get going," shouted the commanding officer to the soldier. The soldier delayed leaving the place for the post of duty.
- He tarried so long at home that by the time he reached the college, the first period was almost over. His staying at home when he should have left for college cost him a period of attendance.
