tedium (noun) boredom.
You feel tedium when the things you are doing do not interest you and do not change. A lack of variety in your activities and life cause tedium. When you go on doing/experiencing the same thing, and so are bored, you experience tedium. A prolonged stay in the hospital where a person has to take rest can be very boring, and so it causes tedium.
- He started viewing the TV to relieve himself of the tedium of having to stay indoors for such a long time. The prolonged stay indoors was causing him a lot of boredom.
- He carried a novel with him hoping that it would reduce the tedium of the slow long journey ahead, but the badly written novel only worsened the boredom of the journey.
