Temerity is the quality of rudeness. A person has the temerity to say or do something when what they say or do shows no respect for others and offends them. If a boy sits on without offering a seat to elderly persons, we say the boy has the temerity to sit in the presence of elders. The boy is rude and offends the elders by not offering them a seat.
- The young girl had the temerity to point out that the way her father talked to her friend was bad. It was rude on her part to say that to her father.
