tempo (noun) the speed and rhythm of a piece of music; the speed at which something happens or is done.

Tempo is the speed at which a piece of music is or should be played. If the music is fast-paced, then the tempo is fast, and if it is slow-paced, then its tempo is slow. Tempo is also the speed at which something happens or something is done. The tempo of research is slowed by the lack of funds. This sentence means that the lack of funds has slowed down research.

  • The fast tempo of the music greatly excited the listeners. As they heard the fast pace of the rhythm, they felt like jumping off their seats and dancing.
  • The tempo of computerization has picked up because of the availability of funds. The computerization is being done very fast.
