tendentious (adj) [of a writing, speech, theory, etc.,] expressing a strong opinion in favor or against an idea.

A tendentious speech expresses a strong opinion with the idea of influencing people. That is, it supports or opposes an idea and tries to turn the people to its point of view. Anything tendentious is not neutral or impartial. It is biased.

  • His articles in the newspapers are tendentious. It expresses strong opinions aimed at influencing the readers, and turning them over to his way of thinking.
  • She is very objective (not tendentious) in her writings and speeches. They do not express any strong opinions for or against an issue, but present facts.
