tepid (adj) slightly warm; not enthusiastic or interesting.

Tepid water is water that is only slightly warm. It is not hot. Tepid tea or coffee is only slightly warm and you do not find it enjoyable. It is not hot enough for you to enjoy it. Tepid also means not very enthusiastic or not showing much interest. When you are tepid about something you do not show much interest in it or very enthusiastic about it.

  • The coffee was tepid and he was disappointed. The slightly warm coffee in place of the hot coffee that he liked to enjoy on the cold morning made him feel unpleasant.
  • He was tepid to the news that he had been selected for the job. It did not interest him much as he expected a much better job than this.
