To tessellate is to arrange small pieces of wood or stone of different sizes and shapes in a pattern. A tessellated surface of a table has small pieces of wood of different shapes, colors and sizes fixed into its surface. A tessellated pavement has a number of small pieces of stone, marble, etc., of different shapes, sizes and colors fixed into it.
