tether (verb) tie an animal to a post.
When you tether a cow or a horse, you tie it to a post to prevent their running away or so that it cannot move very far. We usually tether domestic animals like the cow and buffalo, so that they do not wander away.
- He forgot to tether the horse at night, and in the morning found the horse missing. Because he did not tie it to the post, as he usually did, it was either stolen or had wandered away.
- Detained in the police station, he felt like a tethered animal. His movements were as limited as those of an animal tied to a post.
