throttle (verb) strangle.

To throttle is to squeeze one's neck to make it difficult for them to breathe. People may be killed by throttling. That is, they can be killed if their necks are squeezed and it becomes difficult for them to breathe.

  • He throttled the child to death. It was easy for him to squeeze the neck of the child, making it impossible for the child to breathe.
  • The lack of cooperation throttled his enthusiasm for doing something that could make the family rich. Their lack of support killed his enthusiasm.
