tithe (noun) one tenth or other fixed part of one's income contributed to the church.

Tithe is a tenth of one's income paid to church voluntarily for its maintenance. Usually churchgoers contribute a tenth part of their income or the goods they produce to the church for its maintenance. This is tithe.

  • Though Mason earns millions he is so miserly that he never pays a tithe to the church. A tenth part of his income is all that he has to pay, and he does not pay even this.
  • In prosperous areas of the city, churches do get a lot of money by way of tithes. Most people in the area being rich, the tenth part of their income certainly amount to a lot.
