toady (noun) slavish flatter.

A toady is a mean flatterer who flatters those in power just to get their favor. A toady pretends to like people in power and does whatever they ask them to do just to get things done by them.

  • During the British regime in India a number of Indians were the toadies of the British. They flattered, and pretended to obey their British masters just to get their favor and some important positions.
  • He was a man with a strong sense of independence and never wanted to be a toady. He would never stoop down to flatter important persons just for the sake of their favor.
