transgression (noun) violation.

Transgression is violation of law, moral principle, or a social custom. Going against law, morals, customs and traditions is transgression. Lying is a transgression because it is against morals.

  • His transgression of the country’s laws was punished with a jail term of ten years. Because he broke the law of the country he was jailed for ten years.
  • For his transgression of law, the lawyer’s license to practice law was cancelled. He broke the law by committing forgery and was therefore not allowed to practice law any more.
