A person enjoying the trappings of power has all that is connected with power, like influence, control over others, the willingness of others to obey them, etc. The trappings of wealth are expensive jewelry and clothes, property, money, etc.

  • The situation had all the trappings of a celebration. The colorful lamps illuminating the building, the gathering of a numbering of people in their best of clothes and jewelry, the flavors of the cooking, all these indicated that a celebration was on.
  • The college elections had the trappings of a political election. The active campaigning, the posters, the banners, the manifestoes, and all other things connected with a keenly contested election.
