truism (noun) a statement that is clear and so there is no need to say it.

A statement like, “If you study well, you will pass” is a truism because it is clear that if one studies well, the only thing that can happen is that they will pass. A statement like this need not be said at all. It is understood and accepted by all.

  • His speech was full of truisms. All his statements were so clearly true that there was no need for the speaker to say it.
  • “Laziness is against progress.” Is a good example of a truism. The statement is self-evident and needs no mention.
