unction (noun) act of anointing.

Unction is the act of anointing, that is, applying holy oil on a person for religious purposes like crowning, death, etc. unction is performed when a Christian is to be crowned, or when they are about to die. Holy oil is applied on their bodies signifying that they have been made holy.

  • After the death of the King, the eldest son was crowned king. The priest performed the unction. He applied holy oil on the eldest son who was being crowned.
  • As his death was sudden and in a distant country, he was buried there without unction. No holy oil was applied on his body.
