unctuous (adj) greasy or oily; pretending to be friendly.

Unctuous means oily or greasy. An unctuous hand is oily and is unpleasant to touch. An unctuous body is unpleasant to touch it is greasy or oily. An unctuous person is too friendly in a way that is not sincere. They pretend to be friendly and praise people too much to get their favor.

  • We had a very unpleasant time with him because he was unctuous. He appeared to be too friendly though it was clear that he was not sincere. He was praising us overmuch and that made us feel unpleasant.
  • It was unpleasant to touch his unctuous palm. The palm was greasy from the oil with which he was lubricating the machine.
