unwarranted (adj) unjustified.

An unwarranted action is an unjustified action. There is no sufficient reason for doing it. An unwarranted interference is interference without sufficient reason and so unjustified. Your comments are unwarranted if there is no justification for them.

  • A third personís interference in the affairs of a husband and his wife is unwarranted. They have no reason to interfere, as it is not concerned with them.
  • Dave contended his arrest was unwarranted. His point was that there was no reason at all for his arrest.
