vacillate (verb) waver.
When you vacillate you are unable to decide. You waver. You cannot choose from various options open to you, usually all of them more or less good. When you have two equally tempting offers, only one of which you can choose, you cannot decide which to take. Then you vacillate.
- He vacillated between his love for the girl, and the lucrative job in a foreign country to which he cannot take the girl, as she had to take care of her aging parents. He was unable to choose between the two.
- His vacillation ended in deep disappointment. He was unable to choose between the two equally good options, and took too long to decide. By the time he decided, both the options were withdrawn.
