A vaunted plan, action, system or achievement is one that is praised or talked about too highly or too proudly when it is not that great. A person's much vaunted ability is their ability for which people give more praise than it is fit for. Your acting talent is much vaunted if you get more praise for your acting than you really deserve. A person's wealth is vaunted if it is said that they are richer than they really are.
- The cricketer's much-vaunted ability to bat under any conditions did not help his team to win. His ability was always given more praise than it really deserved. In some matches he was out for a duck.
