verbatim (adj) word for word.

When you repeat something spoken or written verbatim, you repeat, word for word, everyone of them as it was spoken or written. He reported the speech verbatim - this means he reported the speech exactly as it was made, word for word.

  • He memorized verbatim what he had read. He remembered every word of what he had read, without even missing the order of words.
  • The judge demanded a verbatim report of the speech made by the leader. He wanted the report of the speech, word for word, to see if it contained anything against the government.
