verbiage (noun) Use of too many and too difficult words.

Verbiage means the use of unnecessary and too difficult words to express simple ideas. Verbiage is the opposite of simplicity in writing or speaking. A speech or a piece of writing has verbiage if the speech or the writing has unnecessary and very difficult words where a few and easy words will do.

  • He is notorious for his verbiage. He uses unnecessary and bombastic words to express the very few, and commonplace ideas he has.
