verisimilitude (noun) the quality of being real.
A scene in a play or a movie has verisimilitude if it appears to be real, that is, if it gives the impression of being real. A thick layer of sand on the stage gives it the verisimilitude of a desert. That is, it gives the audience the impression of being a real desert. The verisimilitude of a report or a document is its being real or true.
- The verisimilitude of the actor's portrayal of a mad man earned him great praise from the audience. His action as the mad man gave one the impression that he was really mad.
