verity (noun) truth; [always used in the plural form, verities] a belief or principle of life that is always true.

The verity of a statement is the statement being true. When you say that you don't doubt the verity of a report, you mean that you have no doubt that it is true. The verities of life are the facts about life and the world that are always true. That those who are born in the world are bound to die is one of the verities of life.

  • He is a habitual liar. Therefore people always doubt the verity of his words. They are not sure of the truth in his words.
  • That everything in this world has an end is one of the verities of life we have always to keep in mind. It is one of the eternal truths of life.
