Established in 1846, Bucknell University is highly selective, private, nonsectarian, coeducational residential and undergraduate, with a small graduate program. Bucknell offers more than 50 majors and 65 minors in the arts, engineering, humanities, management, sciences and social sciences. Your professors will be mentors and innovators in their fields who will challenge you to think critically, develop your ideas thoughtfully and apply what you learn. These skills will enrich your life and career whether you're working in business, education, research, medicine, law, the arts, service -- or whichever path defines success for you. Our 9:1 student-faculty ratio means you will get to know your professors personally and they will provide help and advice - and not just in class. There are many opportunities to become involved in your professors' scholarly research and creative projects. With its green spaces, brick buildings and striking vistas, Bucknell's 450-acre campus is a quintessential college environment in the heart of scenic central Pennsylvania. The restaurants and shops of downtown Lewisburg - including the Barnes & Noble at Bucknell University and the historic Campus Theatre - lie within walking distance of campus. The University is located within three- to four-hours' driving distance of Baltimore, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. For more information about Bucknell's location, see bucknell.edu/visit. Bucknell is a residential university, so most students live on campus, but learning, service, research and recreation extend off campus. You will have the opportunity to volunteer as close as the local community center or sustainable farm and as far away as New Orleans or Nicaragua. Every year, students travel off campus to conduct research with faculty mentors. Recent destinations have included Alaska, Suriname and Australia. More than 45 percent of students spend a summer, semester or year studying off campus through one of the university's own "in" programs or more than 400 other approved programs in Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania and North and South America. As the cultural hub of the region, Bucknell will inspire you and expand your learning both academically and socially. You'll join with active students whose voices are valued in student government and in shaping the University community. Take advantage of speaker series, arts performances and scholarly lectures on campus. Become a member or leader of a student-run organization. From participating in the arts, honor societies, cultural, political or religious organizations, to exploring the outdoors, you'll find your niche. You can compete in and support Division I athletics as well as intramural and club sports and be active in our state-of-the-art fitness center. About half of sophomores, juniors and seniors participate in fraternity and sorority life and students are active in the more than 200 student-run organizations. At Bucknell, you'll take advantage of career services such as advising, networking, mock interviews, internship support and employer fairs. You can explore your career options and network with alumni through summer internships with corporations, government organizations and non-profits locally, nationally and internationally. An externship program provides job-shadowing opportunities for sophomores. And all that work will pay off. The career placement rate for recent Bucknell graduates is consistently high: 97% of the Class of 2016 was employed, in graduate school, both employed and in graduate school, preparing for graduate school or volunteering within nine months of graduation. Bucknell ranks #3 among liberal arts colleges for alumni mid-career salary (PayScale 2016).
