Cottey College, an independent liberal arts college, educates women to be contributing members of a global society through a challenging curriculum and a dynamic campus experience. In our diverse and supportive environment, women develop their potential for personal and professional lives of intellectual engagement and thoughtful action as learners, leaders, and citizens. ~ The Cottey College MissionFounded in 1884 by Virginia Alice Cottey--who believed women should have the same educational opportunities as men--Cottey College added interdisciplinary baccalaureates to its degree options in 2011. These programs share three common threads: Leadership, Social Responsibility and Global Awareness. Cottey is owned and supported by the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic, educational organization. P.E.O. also supports 5 philanthropies that offer scholarships and grants to women to further their education. Students attend Cottey from around the country and across the world. In 2015-16, students from 43 states attended Cottey with 24% diversity. An additional 19% of Cottey students were from 25 different countries. Cottey alumnae report at least one aspect of their college experience in common--the ability to shape their destiny based on the intellectual motivation and excellent academic preparation they received as a result of their Cottey education.A Cottey education includes:A high quality curriculum that challenges students to explore a range of academic disciplines. Professors who are scholars trained at excellent institutions, with over 90% holding the highest degree in their field. They are outstanding teachers committed to encouraging curiosity and thoughtful inquiry. Intentionally small class sizes that encourage students to explore concepts and express ideas.Excellent experiential learning opportunities, including individualized internships, study abroad options, and community service. These opportunities enhance our bachelors degree programs with practical experience. A leadership development program open to all students. Combining theory and practice, students develop the skills and self-confidence that will shape their future education and career path. A study abroad experience for students in their sophomore year, paid for by the College with very little expense for the student. Learning modules developed by faculty enhance the experience. Destinations vary each year, and in recent years include cities in Europe (London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Florence, and Rome) as well as Guatemala, Peru, New Zealand, Japan, and Thailand. Interdisciplinary baccalaureate programs in Business Administration-Management, Criminology, Education, English, Environmental Studies, Health Sciences, International Business, International Relations, Liberal Arts, Organizational Leadership, and Psychology.Other degree options, including Associate in Arts, Associate in Arts-Music, Associate in Fine Arts, Secondary Education or Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies, and Associate in Science degrees. Students may begin study in their chosen major or receive assistance in determining their interests and academic strengths. Outstanding resources dedicated to the education of women.
