Golden Gate University

Golden Gate University (GGU) is a small, private school in the financial district of San Francisco that's designed for students who are also working adults. GGU offers more than 80 degrees to undergraduate students, and master's programs in the Edward S. Ageno School of Business and in the fields of information technology, taxation, and law. To accommodate students who work, GGU has weekend and evening classes in San Francisco and at the school's regional campuses in Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, and Seattle. Students can earn a degree without going to any of those campuses by enrolling in GGU's Cyber Campus online learning program. On campus, there are no university-owned residential halls and no sports teams. However, students can get involved outside the classroom by joining more than 40 campus organizations, participating in student government, or writing for the Campus Currents newsletter. Notable GGU alumni include Joan Blades, who cofounded the MoveOn.org political action committee and Bernard J. Tyson, Chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente.GGU is California's fourth oldest private university enrolling 5,000 students and representing more than 68,000 alumni. The university's main campus is located in San Francisco with additional teaching sites in Seattle, Silicon Valley and Los Angeles. In addition to evening and weekend classes, most courses and degrees are offered entirely online.The first degree-conferring program of the university started in 1901, with the formation of California's first evening law school. By offering classes at night, Golden Gate made legal studies available to the common person. Four students comprised the law school's first graduating class.Today, Golden Gate University continues as a pioneer of adult education in business and management, accounting, taxation, and law.
