IU Kokomo is known for offering a private school experience at a public school price. Offering a world class Indiana University degree, at a regional campus, our faculty members are committed to teaching small classes, being accessible to students, and partnering with them in undergraduate research, practicums and service learning projects. The resident, international faculty is the core teaching staff on the campus revered for its excellent student-teacher ratio which affords the students opportunities to build lasting relationships with professors. The faculty, who come from over 16 countries, pride themselves on knowing students names and mentoring them on their collegiate journey. Our freshman learning community program is a unique interdisciplinary, team-taught, year-long program that focuses on helping freshman understand the different ways of knowing and strategies for a successful transition to college. Students note that the program provides them with a community of learners as they grapple with college level materials for the first time and a group of life-long friends. They enjoy taking classes together with the same students and faculty team for an entire year. This is especially important for commuter students. The FLC program has significantly increased the retention of freshman students. IU Kokomos General Education Program is nationally recognized as a strong, liberal arts based core curricula. The program prepares students with academic knowledge, communication and analytical skills, and strong sense of their part in a global, diverse world. During the past five years, the faculty has offered numerous short-term overseas study experiences (England, France, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Poland, South Korea and Turkey) to insure that students are prepared to live and work in a diverse world. Our highly personalized advising system focuses on the success of the whole person. Our advisors begin by meeting with each new student for one hour during their first advising session, calling each new freshman during the first week of classes, and meeting with each student at least two times during each semester. Our student success center provides tutoring in writing and math, study skill and computer instruction, and ESL training. The campus is committed to enhancing the academic experience with a full complement of extracurricular opportunities. The campus supports a Director of Applied Learning whose primary responsibility is to connect academic and extracurricular opportunities. Finally, in addition to our face-to-face classes, IUK offers hybrid and online courses to provide different delivery systems that meet the needs of the students, especially adult students. For technology infrastructure and support, IU was named "most wired" among public universities by PC Magazine.
