Founded in 1841 as the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Manhattanville College is an independent, co-educational liberal arts institution dedicated to academic excellence and preparing students to be ethical and socially responsible leaders in a global community. The College offers more than 50 undergraduate areas of study including newly developed majors in Sport Studies, Digital Media Production, Accounting, and Marketing. With career-focused education, and close proximity to New York City, students can combine in-class learning with on-the-job experiences through access to more than 650 internships ranging from Fortune 500 companies to non-profits, arts and entertainment venues to research opportunities, and much more. The School of Business offers six career focused master's degrees accredited through IACBE: Business Leadership, Finance, International Management, Human Resource Management and Organizational Effectiveness, Marketing Communication Management and Sport Business Management, as well as graduate Advanced Certificates. Also offered are accelerated bachelor's degree options in the Accelerated Professional Programs for Evening Adult Learners (APPEAL) designed specifically for adult learners and degree completers along with several dual B.S./M.S. dual degrees (5 year) programs. Professional development: Post Baccalaureate/Pre-health course of study; certificates in Risk Management, Nonprofit Management, and Women's Leadership; Digital Marketing; SHRM certification preparation and workshops for lifelong learners. Manhattanville's nationally accredited School of Education (SOE) offers 50 graduate programs. Main program areas are art education, childhood, early childhood, educational leadership, literacy, music education, physical education, secondary, special education, and TESOL. Additional programs are offered in bilingual education, education entrepreneurship, educational studies, Education for Sustainability, Science of Reading: Multisensory Instruction, and Health and Wellness. Master's degrees, post-master's certification, advanced certificates, professional diplomas, and certificates of advanced study are offered. The SOE offers a cohort-based doctoral program with 3 program options: educational leadership (signature track), educational leadership (executive track- ABD), and higher education leadership concentration. The School offers an accelerated masters/certification program, Jump Start, and a Day Start graduate program in Childhood Education for those interested in taking graduate coursework during the day. The SOE excels in offering dual degree certification programs, especially with special education. The Rose Institute for Learning and Literacy, a 13-credit graduate certificate program, prepares teachers to use a multisensory, phonics-based approach to teaching reading.Manhattanville's 36-credit Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program is open to graduates of accredited colleges and universities who demonstrate a strong potential in writing and critical thinking. Students are admitted to the program primarily on the strength of their writing submitted as part of the application process. Evening courses are scheduled to meet working adults needs.
